Yes. Most AM4 coolers mount on AM5 with the hardware already in the box. AMD kept the mounting-hole spacing and the backplate thread pattern identical across the two sockets, so the socket change itself is not what decides it.

One thing decides it: the backplate. If your cooler's AM4 instructions told you to leave the motherboard backplate alone, it fits. If they told you to pull that backplate out and fit the cooler's own, it does not, because AM5's backplate is part of the socket retention assembly. The backplate rule, in full

AM4 and AM5 use the same mounting-hole spacing and the same threaded standoffs on the backplate. That is the part everyone cites, and it is true. It is also not the part that breaks. This article is only about whether your cooler survives the move; whether the platform jump itself is worth making is its own decision.

What breaks is the backplate. On AM4, some coolers shipped with their own and told you to pull the board's stock plate out first. On AM5 that stock plate is not a part you swap. It belongs to the socket retention assembly, and vendor guidance is consistent that forcing it off risks the board. A cooler that needs its own backplate has nowhere to put it.

You can tell which branch you are on without picking up a screwdriver. Open the AM4 section of your cooler's manual, or look in the box it came in. One more failure is worth knowing about, and it is not a socket problem at all. AMD's standoffs take UNC 6-32 threads. Plenty of AIO cold plates and custom-loop blocks bolt down with M3 or M4 instead. A cooler in that position is AM5-compatible and still will not screw down, which is a confusing place to end up.
